Terry Sharper wants to be my friend, he's not right in the head, he went upstate again
And when I visit he is strapped to the bed singing Portishead, it doesn't sound too bad
He said the army tried to steal his house, don't know what that's about but at least he is talking
Playing checkers in the living room they gave him space to move they think he's doing better
The nurse said Terry could be leaving soon due to his change in mood and a new disposition
Prescription Thorazine is all he needs and if he stays routine then he'll be out forever
Terry way to go!
He wouldn't take his pills, he said they're meant to kill
Over our dinner date where Terry smashed my plate
He said to go outside and I was to oblige
And Terry followed me and Terry beat me up in the street
The police they came
and took Terry away
And I hope to god
that they don't let Terry out again

Come & Go

I heard the door close
You picked up your clothes
I'm always waking up as you leave
Come and go
Oh as you please
Come and go
Cold as the breeze
Come and go
I'm back on the bleachers
listening to your old cd's
I used to waste days
Stuck in your bedframe
Now I just walk around in the park
Come and go
Oh as you please
Come and go
Cold as the breeze
Come and go
I'm back on the bleachers
listening to your old cd's

Motorboat

Nobody knows her name
She came in on a motorboat
She didn't really have much to say
But she came bearing a lot of hope
That everything would end up okay
Nobody knows her name
She left town on a motorboat
There isn't really much else left to say
But she left us with a lot of hope
That someday we might float away

I can name about ten types of trees
And when the sun's not out I stay in and sleep
Yesterday I went on a hike to write some things about you
But it all came back to me
Cause when you're not here I think too much about solar systems
How you and I can see satellites but not all my friends can listen all night
To me going off about how you can name any type of ivy
I don't wanna sleep tonight, so lift me up and find me
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
I can hold it out if you can wait to see
That there's never spaces in between
You and I when I'm in the passenger I can read you directions
While you're singing Sky Blue Sky
Cause when you're not here I get too many airport fever dreams
I've learned to take them as they come and go cause it's September 1st before you know
And now I can see through the grey-scale smoke and I think I love you
Most when I'm driving your car through the botanical gardens we'll wait for our friends to leave
Then we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance
And we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance and we'll dance

Coffee

I don't like coffee
But you do and that's okay
That just won't stop me
From loving you all the same
I don't do laundry
At a normal place but that's okay
That just won't stop me
From dressing up every day
Dressing up for you
Before I met you
I didn't know who I could be
Now I like coffee
Your favourite shirt is pressed and clean
Life was exhausting
But now with you
I'm awake

Greyhounds never look like what they tell you on the fliers
But economy's alright so I'll lay my head back and tire myself out a little more
And idly wait for the pills to kick in
I'm beginning to feel like somebody else again
And then I fall asleep and my head goes back to Fred Meyers
Aiken and I were buying groceries and someone hit his tires unaware
We waited in the lot to find he was a drunk guy with a couple of kids
He gave us a hundred bucks and said "I won't do it again"
He said I truly apologize I buried my wife earlier today
But he stumbled with a rack of Busch in his hands and his face told me several different things
I don't know if you lied but if you didn't I'm sorry
And if you did then pardon me, but fuck you
And then I wake up in the station next to Century Link Field
Grabbed my Angel Olsen ticket and my bag and I had a feeling about you
That's lingered all week long even after what happened
And I hold onto it or else I really start to panic
Next thing I know I'm about to go into the show with my good friend Alex
But I forgot my ticket in his car so I walked back in the alley and saw her standing there
Angel Olsen was with her boyfriend and she saw her face it was on my shirt
But that moment went by too fast she walked past and I couldn't get out a word
And then I'm back in the Neptune and I tell Alex about it and he's like "cool"
I expressed my regret over the interaction and he's like "hey man let's just listen to some tunes"
So we did and Angel played all of her hits except "Unfucktheworld"
She looked tired she said so herself but she played well and we were enamoured
After the show, Alex and I walked back ....
...... we stood astounded at all the broken glass
My backpack under my jacket with the laptop wasn't there
We called the cops and waited for hours but something in the air told me I'd lost this one
And so we sat and talked under the Chipotle light for hours
I said out of anger I'd write a song about this

Jennicam

No one’s asking me, the time of day.
All my friends are packed, and moved away.
When I see you next, what will we say?
How’s your father been? This weather’s strange.
You’re coming close, oh god
What do I do?
I trade glances between
My shoes and you.
We move our mouths as if to talk
But you just cough and I do too.
I’ve seen that face before
Back in Jenny’s room.
When everybody spoke
As if they knew.
I couldn’t hear them talk
But I saw how they moved.
What can I say, and what can I do
I’m running out of youth.
And if I’m gonna be true
I lost a lot of that and you did too.
How can I say and how can you tell
I’m never out of view?

Heavier

The only possibility seems to be stuck up in my head
The answer came to me but it felt like a long forgotten friend
And it seems to me
Catastophe
Is lurking.
Make something of me
Take my anatomy
Oh i'm searching
Here lies heavier
In my heart
Here lies heavier
in the dark
It's been a while now my absence is a part of who I am
Got drunk without my friends thought about life as if it were all pretend
And it seems to me
Catastrophe
Is lurking.
Make something of me
Take my anatomy
Oh I'm searching
I found some beauty
In a Wal-Mart parking lot while I was driving you
But you got in the car lost my train of thought
What could I do?
I found some beauty
In a Wal-Mart parking lot while I was driving you
But you got in the car lost my train of thought
What could I do?
The only possibility seems to be stuck up in my head
